Common Point of Reference

In order to harness knowledge intended to navigate organizations as one and the same unit, as compared to the majority of today’s businesses whose parts buzz with constant calibrating brain banks and systems, we must fulfill one precondition; it is quite simply the creation of a common point of reference [or CPR].

This is the very core of the process that makes continuous improvement possible and preferable over all other options available.

The CPR answers questions like:

  • What does the organization really look like, with all of its different relations?
  • Which product and service portfolio is offered to what markets and clients?
  • How does the offer compare with the two leading competitors in their respective markets?
  • Which employees have competence for their positions?
  • Which improvement projects are on-going and how do they correspond to strategies and goals set?
  • How well are different projects coordinated?
  • How would products, organizations, competencies and localizations be integrated in case of a fusion?
  • How well does the portfolio of information systems fill the actual need of interaction support, including gaps and overlaps?

The Ortelius answer to the CPR capability is called inorigo®. It makes it possible to navigate gradually around the enterprise and dive into its different depths, it is the primary factor for disclosing and acquiring enterprise intelligence.

SIM mode

SIM is used to secure direction of anchoring and prioritizing the mass of identified needs and provides insight, commitment and coherence when improvement initiatives are being realized. In this analysis and simulation mode the possibility to capture, visualize, understand and change an imagined reality is imparted. Thereby lead time and money are saved as improvement initiatives are being carried through with higher accuracy and acceptance.

RUN mode

RUN is used as a knowledge hub in the execution of the enterprise. It provides continual nourishment for all integrated minds by feeding them high quality information regarding the enterprise. It supports systems as well as knowledge workers with trustworthy information immediately from the source. Using RUN minimizes the number of information sources, as structured knowledge of the enterprise is stored in one and the same place. Besides minimized maintenance of local sources, the possibility to detect patterns and relations to maintain quality with each decision is provided. RUN is also used to support and complete existing systems with new functions. inorigo® consist of a logic model and a tool to manage it and coherent functions to view, filer, aggregate and combine information into common and  mind breaking new knowledge. The logic model is called inorigo® Core Model and the tool to manage it – inorigo® Manager.

The common reference renders live modelling possible and with it we can immediately, through visualization and simulation, picture the final result in contrast to traditional ways of working upon free text and the “dead” diagrams.

The common point of reference is mainly built to manage information at a higher level of abstraction than traditional business systems but can be connected to the ordinary information. It is therefore suitable for supporting the knowledge worker in his daily work

By connecting information that was never before connected because of technical and/or mental limitations, new opportunities to relate, visualize and understand specific information are at your fingertips at any given moment; all simultaneously being stored within existing enhanced business systems

Facts:

A CPR consists of a core-model that defines the logic “building blocks” that are the foundation of every enterprise. These building blocks, which can be related to each other, provides the fundament basis with which it is possible to create a pattern of connections to define the distinctive nature of any specific enterprise; connections, as mentioned earlier, that were not able to be made through the use of presently commercially available services or tools. The result is a model that is aligned with the businesses evolution. The process is made possible through Ortelius method and product for continuous response modelling presented in a visual context providing unmatched comprehension. The anchored model becomes a common picture of the business needs, allowing for expedient implementation and further, can be reused for all future improvement initiatives.
