Surgical knowledge in the palm of your hand
One of the most important processes in health care is to determine the right diagnosis. The more experienced surgeon the more accurate the diagnosis. The more surgeons acting on a specific patient diagnosis, an even better diagnosis is set.
Ortelius was challenged to present a solution how to capture the collective knowledge of multiple surgeons and create an expert system that could guide more or less experienced doctors and nurses when deciding on a diagnosis and related actions.
A Second challenge was to decrease time for the verification of the diagnosis, documented in the clinical record. Today, it could take up to 3 months to verify.
Our stand point was to meet the most experienced surgeons and capture and understand how they determined a diagnosis. We modeled the information with the clinical staff and verified together in the inorigo® plattform that the logics were right. We also collected information how the logics behind the DRG were and integrated this in the same core.
One finding was critical – we needed to discover a solution that documented the diagnosis, as soon as the attending physician made the decision.
Results:
After 3 months from project initiation we presented a Health care application that could run on any handheld device. The “app” consisted of expert information, a collective view of patient information and compiled a list of the decided diagnoses and actions when done.
Integration was made to other vital systems.
The Hospital could comply to a quality assured process to define the DRG code.
